Bibliographies and Other Projects of the Regional Departmentof the Joseph Conrad Korzeniowski Regional and City Public Library in Gdańsk

Abstract

Since the mid 1970s the Regional Library in Gdańsk has carried out more extensive activities related to regionalism. Among the tasks of the Regional Department is the creation of a bibliography, initiated by the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Volumes of the Bibliography of the Gdańsk Pomerania for the years 1961-1981 and 1996 were published in print. The next step was the implementation of the PATRON programme in 2007 to create an electronic Bibliography of Gdańsk and Central Pomerania. First, the Regional Library in Gdańsk established cooperation with the Słupsk City Library, and then, in 2016, with district libraries. Material is excerpted from the press, as well as from scientific journals.Changes were made to the descriptions due to the transition of the National Library from subject headings to descriptors in 2017. The new version of PATRON,implemented in 2022, allows faceted searching. The editing of the quarterly journal Regional News was undertaken in 2014 to supplement the Bibliography of Gdańsk and Central Pomerania. This online periodical has gained considerable popularity. Information sources related to the Pomeranian region also include the biobibliographical Dictionary of Writers of Gdańsk Pomerania, covering authors directly related to the area of the Gdańsk Region from 1945-1975. In addition to the broad bibliography of Pomerania, the Library is also working on a Bibliography of the Kashubia area. So far, 2 volumes have been published in print. The Library"s information bases are subject to constant evaluation and verification. Work is under way to improve the sources in terms of their content and methodology.
